The classic tour: lava flows, lava caves and lunar landscapes of South Etna, in 1 h 45.
Departure · La Baita 3L Ski-Lab, Nicolosi (CT)
The quad tour is ideal for anyone who wants to discover Etna’s nature through an off-road adventure. It takes place entirely on an automatic, easy-to-ride quad that safely carries up to two people, each responsible for their own vehicle.
Along the way we cross an eruptive fissure, riding through long fields of lava and black volcanic sand: we admire explosive craters and discover a lava flow cave. We then stop to visit traditional local buildings, similar to Sardinian nuraghi or Apulian trulli.
We continue through Etna’s broom forest and descend along the lava channels, among lunar landscapes and “dagale” — wooded islands surrounded by petrified lava. We then ride through a pine forest along the bed of a dry stream, where the landscape alternates lava and woodland, before returning to the starting point.
The tour departs from Piazzale Rifugio Sapienza on Etna's south side, minutes from Nicolosi: €110 per quad — solo or with a passenger — on an automatic two-seater Anther A500. A standard car licence (18+) is all you need to drive; passengers can join from age 5. An hour and 45 minutes in total — a 10-minute briefing plus an hour and 35 minutes off-road — all year round: in bad weather we reschedule or issue a voucher valid for one year.
